Sketch Day 008
Ichimatsu patterns—those perfectly aligned squares in rows and columns—may be the simplest design of all.
And precisely because of their simplicity, they offer endless possibilities for creative play.
With equal-length sides, they give a sense of stability and stillness—an impression of “静 (quiet).”
But when you tilt the axis and turn the squares into diamonds, that impression shifts to “動 (motion).”
So I asked myself—can we express “motion” without tilting the form?
This sketch explores that possibility through color contrast.
The bold pairing of red and white evokes a sense of anticipation, as if something meaningful is about to begin.
That rising energy gives the piece its dynamic edge.
A brooch of ruby and platinum, in the classic ichimatsu pattern.
It’s a quiet talisman for those moments when you're holding a deep, determined wish in your heart.
